Special Enrollment (outside Nov–Jan)

You may qualify after certain life events (move, loss of coverage, marriage/divorce, birth/adoption, income change, and more). Note: the monthly Special Enrollment Period for people at ≤150% FPL has been repealed; eligibility and verification are stricter. Your agent will check what applies in your state.

Your enrollment windows

  • Initial Enrollment Period (IEP): around your 65th birthday.
  • Annual Open Enrollment (AEP): Oct 15 – Dec 7 (changes take effect Jan 1).
  • Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment: Jan 1 – Mar 31 (switch MA plan or return to Original Medicare).
  • General Enrollment (if you missed Part A/B): Jan 1 – Mar 31; coverage starts the month after you sign up.

2025 prescription-drug changes (Part D)

New $2,000 annual cap on Part D out-of-pocket costs, plus an option to smooth payments across the year. Structural updates tied to recent law changes: coverage-gap redesign and updated plan funding rules.
